The original 1997 turn-based classic is back, enhanced with modern practical features, while remaining as unique as ever!
BACK TO THE ORIGINS
The first Culdcept was released in 1997. While much of the video game world was trying to appropriate new futuristic terms like "polygon graphics" or "full-motion video," Culdcept followed a completely different path. Dice and cards! Over the years, several installments of the series have been released, but this very first game had never left Japan. With the enhanced port Culdcept The First, we return to the origins!
ROLL THE DICE
Culdcept The First plays like a mix of a board game and a card game. You use one die (or two dice with certain spells) to move around the board. The spaces you land on can be claimed by summoning a creature to defend them. Spaces come in four colors representing different terrain types, corresponding to the creatures you can summon. You can also upgrade these spaces to gain additional advantages.
OVER 300 CARDS
If an opponent lands on your space, they can choose to pay a toll or attack your defensive creature with one of their own. During these battles, players can also use special item cards to maximize their chances of victory. Your deck (or "grimoire," as it's called) consists of 50 cards of different types, and you have access to over 300 cards in total! The player who gathers the target amount of magical power and then returns to the starting point wins the game!
THE BOOK OF CREATION AND DESTRUCTION
Humanity prospered for a long time on the continent of Bablashca. But when strange stone tablets were discovered across the world, it plunged into deep chaos. These stones turned out to be fragments of Culdcept - the Book of Creation and Destruction. According to prophecy, whoever controls the Culdcept gains infinite power. Quickly, everyone began fighting to gain control of these scattered fragments. As war spreads, a lone young man rises and embarks on a long journey... and you can follow his adventure!
